How to solve
- Treat the board as 8×8: one cat per row, column, and color region.
- A useful anchor is row 1, column 2 — place it when forced, then ban its row, column, and diagonals.
- Repeat elimination until every remaining line has only one legal square.
- Finish by verifying row 8, column 8; every row and column should hold exactly one cat with no diagonal contact.
- Answer: R1C2, R2C4, R3C1, R4C7, R5C5, R6C3, R7C6, R8C8.
